Oakley Home Builders Home Styles - New England Style aka. Board and Batten

Oakley Home Builders was recently contracted to construct a New England-Board and Batten style home. Board and batten, or board-and-batten, describes a type of exterior siding or interior paneling that has alternating wide boards and narrow wooden strips, called battens. The boards are usually (but not always) one foot wide. Board-and-batten siding is sometimes called barn-siding, because many barns in North America are constructed with board and batten.

Some of the highlights of the New England style home include mixed window styles, mixed materials, decorative shingles, large porches, bay windows and rooms, multi-angled rooflines, and stained glass. Additionally, natural materials are used such as stained wood, columns, pilasters, shutters and a symmetrical facade and possibly dormers.

Oakley Home Builders is pleased to be skilled carpenters of a variety of home styles. Visit our website today to see some of the many styles of homes we have available.
